Number of Keywords on a Webpage
| Most people know that one of the keys to utilizing SEO and ranking your website in the search engines is the use of keywords. Still, there are many factors you must consider when using keywords if you want to see success. One of the elements that some people get focused is how many keywords they should target on one webpage.
It’s easy for people to want to do too much with SEO marketing. That’s because of how easy it is to implement affordable SEO tactics onto your website all by yourself. All you need to do is add some keywords here and there, and then viola, you will get ranked highly. Right? Well, not exactly, and the truth is that many people do more harm than good when they assume that SEO is this basic. SEO is actually very refined. Maybe a decade ago you could get away with doing anything that was related to search engine optimization and see success. There was such little competition, and so few tried and true tactics, that anything you tried to do would help you succeed. Today, many people practicing SEO try to target too many keywords on a single webpage. They figure, if I have 25 figures I’m trying to rank for, I should try to make every one of my web pages get ranked for all of those keywords. It’s like playing the percentages, giving yourself more options and therefore ensuring that you’ll see great results. However, in actuality the opposite is true. More is less when it comes to SEO and the number of keywords you are trying to target. By targeting too many on a single web page, you aren’t doing anything but thinning out your focus. You’ll also likely be including so many keywords that your content will come across as spam to both the search engines and your visitors. So what’s the solution for how many keywords to include? There is no exact number, but a good start is to target 2 to 3 keywords per page with your SEO strategies. Then, if you have a dozen pages on your website and that list of 25 keywords, you can make each page go after about 2, and you’ll be targeting every one of your keywords. You’ll be reducing the overload and making your site much more specific and targeted. Your SEO results will quickly improve and your rankings will soar. Of course, this number is just a basic guideline. For pages with lots of content, you can include more than 2 different keywords as a prime focus. However, for a page with just one hundred words, targeting 2 to 3 different key phrases would be excessive. Therefore it’s important to use common sense and base your judgments according to how much content you have, and what looks natural to you as you look at your page. Remember that with SEO, most people try to do entirely way too much. Keep it simple and keep your focus to 2 or 3 keywords per web page. |
